The entire universe is at work all the time. According to the specific philosophy of Maharshi Kanad, there are nine elements that move the universe.

These are: the earth, water, fire, air or winds, sky, time, directions, the soul and the mind. Five activities go on because of these elements: throwing up, throwing down, contraction, expansion and transport.

The activities and the powers are complimenting each other. All that takes place in the universe is because of power. According to the glossary of Maharshi Yask, power has been divided into 28 types: oj, tej, shav, tuv, tar, twaksha, sharddha, badh, nrumnam, tavishi, shushmam, shusham, daksha, veelu, shushnam, chyoulam, sah, yah, vadh, varg, vrijanam, vruk, majmana, pounsyani, gharanasi, dravinam, syandras, shambaram.

Power is generated because of union of elements. All the living beings on the earth are only because of energy or power. Billions of years ago, the Almighty had spread the light of all the knowledge and skills through the Veds at the time of creation of the universe. Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati had made rules for the Arya Samaj, one of which was: "The Veds are the books of all the true knowledge and skills, it is the religious duty of all Aryans to teach and learn the Veds."

Thus, all the true knowledge and skills are mysteriously embedded in the Veds in the form of verses. One of them is the knowledge of energy or power, which is presented like this according to the Veds:

In this Mantra, two types of power are mentioned: oj, and tar. The power which makes man capable of working is ‘oj’, while the power which drives vehicles on water is ‘tar’. Operation of weapons is also dependent on this power. In this Mantra, Angiras Hiranyastup Rishi explains the principle of lifting water up from below the surface, using the power of Indra (lightning). He also invokes this power ‘tar’ (Vajra) to destroy enemies, because of the extreme heat of the lightning-fast rays.

Further, in RigVed 1-39-10, The Rishi of this Mantra is Ghoraputra, and the deity is Marut. This Mantra describes two kinds of power: body power ‘oj’, and mechanical power ‘shav’. The brave warrior who has the power of ‘oj’, will be successful in using the knowledge of mechanical power. Otherwise, the mechanical power too will not be able to function. The religious minded brave men should use weapons with all the power against the enemies of God and the Veds and defeat them, and conquer kingdoms which have knowledge of the Veds and the Vedic experts.

The Rishi of the RigVed Mantra 1-56-3 is Angiras Savya, and the deity is Indra. The kinds of power discussed here are: pounsya, shav, shushnam. The power of youth is pounsya. The power which destroys grief is shav, and the power facilitating functions of householderhood and society is shushnam.

The Rishi of the RigVed Mantra 1-103-3 is Angiras Kutsa, and the deity is Indra. This Mantra discusses two types of power: oj, sah. This Mantra explains the means to increase the sah power. The process of increasing or decreasing sah is told in the knowledge of Indra. It also explains how to make weapons like Vajra (Hetis) more powerful. To increase power needs explosion of those elements which create heat with chemical reaction. The power of Vajra is created with the help of the power of the sun. The principles of creating this power are clearly given in the RigVed Mantra 1-103-8.

The power shushnam is created from the power of the sun. The power shambar is generated with the water contained in the clouds. Thus, it is only appropriate that men should make their weapons full of these two powers to destroy enemies. Shushnam power generates light and heat and fire, whereas the shambar creates poisonous gases, tear gas, smoke, poisonous smoke, disease-spreading gases etc. In this Mantra, Indra lashes at Vrutra, brandishing his weapon again and again, which actually suggests that the experts in this power should also use their weapons again and again on the enemies and destroy them. One such example is that the arrows fired by Arjun always returned to him after killing enemies. The RigVed Mantra 1-115-5 explains about consuming the Brahma-Shakti. It is because of Brahma that the sun changes from day to night. So, it is advised to worship Brahma.

The Rishi of the RigVed Mantra 1-133-3 is Paruchhepa, and the deity is Indra. Here, the power with the enemy is called sharddha. But this power is connected with an army; whether it is ours or whether that of the enemy. This Mantra advises that when the enemies are causing us troubles by staying in deep trenches or caves, the chief of the nation should destroy them right there, and become the cause of happiness. Thus, here, it suggests that wherever the enemies are hiding in trenches and caves and such places, they should be found out there with the help of spies.

The army equipped with powerful weapons for defending the nation should be well-mannered. It is better to destroy people who are capricious, hateful, deceitful, acting against religion, nasty. For this there is a Mantra which explains the necessity of an army. It suggests that religious-minded people should create better and better weapons and destroy enemies. The army which is always equipped with modern weapons will doubtless destroy enemies and remain victorious.

The Rishi of the RigVed Mantra 1-51-6/7 is Angiras Savya, and the deity is Indra. This Mantra also mentions the use of the shushnam and shambaram powers. It explains that just as Indra uses his weapons like the Vajra and other ones and conquers his enemies, religious-minded people also should become powerful and conquer their enemies. The Veds teach man to attain power. Where there is power, there will be victory. The God rules the universe with His powers. A powerful king keeps his people happy and contented. Powerful machines help man. The natural elements also exist for power. So, to attain the knowledge of power, man must worship God. It is only with His blessings that the basic knowledge provided in the Veds can be further expanded and human welfare can be attained. The Vedic knowledge was used by so many nations for their progress, but Indians kept just chanting them. We must study the Veds deeply and bring out the great knowledge contained therein into light.

Four Mantras of the AtharvaVed Kand 19, Sukta 37 are for attainment of power. The Rishi is Atharva and the deity is Agni. In these Mantras, the deity Agni or fire is requested to bestow all kinds of power and energy upon us: O Lord, please give is all kinds of powers for body strength, strength to perform duties, life of a hundred years, for inner strength, for destroying enemies, for serving the nation, for prosperity, for performing Yajnas.
