Ordinary people always tend to believe that the veds are books of spirituality and philosophy and praise of gods and description of various Yajnas. But in addition to that , they also exhibit scientific realities with the help of Yajnas and the fire. Rather than going to a lengthy explanation of all this , I will just say what I want to .

The poland born Nicholas Kopernicus (1473 –1543) discovered that the sun is at the center of universe and not the earth , as was previously believed. When the book of this great astronomer (book explaining this discovery)was published in 1543 , there was pandemonium and it was heavily criticized. Later , Galileo proved that this discovery was correct. The discovery also explained that the surface of the sun was surrounded by a lot of dark spots. This was a discovery made in the 16 th century , but the same thing was described in the veds which are hundreds of thousands years old , in the Madhyadin Samhita (33.43).

The literal meaning of the Mantra is that the sun is surrounded by ‘dust particles’ But there are various meanings of the original word “Raj” including the ‘earth’ itself. Acharyas Uvat and Mahidhar consider the original word ‘Krishnatwa’ to mean ‘darkness’ Thus the veds describe that the sun is surrounded by a lot of ‘dark dust spots’ ,and this being explained hundreds of thousands or years before Copernicus his discovery loses its importance. This shows that there is science in the Veds.

The veds form the basis of science. The secound Mantra is meant to make favourable all the stars and planets in the sky , so that they make good effect on the life , and it is chanted on various auspicious occasions. It is for the good of man and all living beings ( Rig Ved 1.89.6 , Madhyadin sam. 25/19), There are 27 Rulers of 27 Constellations. The Mantra Praises four of the major rulers of these: Indra , Ruler of the Chitra Constellation , Poosha, Ruler of the Revati Constellation , Vishnu , Ruler of the Shravan Constellation , and Brihaspati , Ruler of the Pushya Constellation. Thus to make favourable all the heavenly bodies including 27 Constellations , 12 Zodiac signs and 12 Lagnas , these for Rulers are praised. As this Mantra contains astronomy , it is related to science. Rishi Gatuam created it.

Creator of the third Mantra was Rishi Deerghatama Gautam who created the vedic Calender. Gorakh Nath , writer of the book “The History of Astrology” has proved in this book that it was only with a lot of experiments and ceaseless efforts that the calendar could be set , and it took a very long time to perfect it. But in India , the knowledge already existed in this Mantra (Rig Ved 1.64.2). The second half of the Mantra describes a year , which contains three seasons: Greeshma , Varsha and Hemant , i.e. , the hot season, the rainy season and the cold , respectively. The years containing these three seasons is being praised in the Mantra. In addition to the above three there are two more in the Veds, Vasant and Shishir (RigVed 1.164.13). The Brahman Books also consider five seasons. Sometimes , even six seasons are considered as in Rig Ved 1.164.12. The wheel of time has 12 spokes , denoting 12 months (RigVed 1.164.18). In RigVed 1.164.48 , there are 360 days , which are also included in the wheel. The Brahman Books also considers 360 days of a year. Thus, most of the Richas of the 164 th sukta of the 1 st Mandal of the RigVed contain scientific division of time of the year into seasons and days and months. Rishi Deerghatama Gautam discovered the time wheel and sun wheel and year wheel for the first time in the world.

The fourth Mantra is about the science of numbers , which is a gift by India to the world. The Veds produced numbers ranging from 1 to 18 digits , when there was very little knowledge of numbers in the world. These numbers are frequently used in the

Veds. For example, for preparing the fire place of the Agni Chayan Yajna, 10,800 bricks are required. Now how could this number have been calculated in absence of the scientific knowledge? This science is described like this in the Shukla Yajurved Madhyadin Samhita (17.2/Tai.Man.4/4/11/23) by Mahidhar: one , ten, hundred , thousand , ayut (10000), niyut (100000), prayut (1000000), koti, arbud , nyarbud , kharva , nikharva , padma , mahapadma , shanku , samudramadhya , samudraant , parardha; all these 18 numbers are 10 times of the earlier ones. For more information , please refer the original Mahidhat Bhashya. Thus , there was a lot of science involved in the ancient Veds of India.
