All the actions and events taking place in the world are controlled by some invisible power. It is the lower of the Superme God, Lord Indra. In his Nighantu, Maharshi Yask has classified the Vedic deities into three types: 1. Those residing on the earth, 2. Those residing in space, and 3.Those residing in Dyou (deep space). Lord Indra is a deity residing in space. To the human eye, the sky looks just a blue thing above our heads, but observed closely, it is full of various minute powers. There are many types of wind currents, minute light particles of the sunlight, all kinds of gases, sounds water particles, and atoms and molecule are present in the sky. Souls of all types of beings also arrive here after death. Other types of Vedic deities are also existent in space, but they are all considered to be assisting Lord Indra. He is described with all kinds of superlatives, which suggest that His power is unlimited. His presence is there from food items to even the power of the soul.

Lord Indra is the producer of food grains, He carries them and gives them away. It is the function of his powers to makes the moon glow, cause interactions among atoms and molecules, as well as make all arrangements of things. The Ahutis- sacrifices – made to Him during the Yajnas are with a view to increase His powers. The First Sukta of the Rig Ved contains only Mantras for the Fire God, and the Second Sukta has 4-6 Mantras for Indravayu . In these, Rishi Madhuchhanda Explains the making of rains etc. Which are produced with combinations of Indra and the Wind God which are performed in the space. They bringd the effects of deeds performed by humans during their lives to the earth. The Third Sukta too contains Mantras 4 to6 which are abiut Lord Indra. The first mantra of these says: O Lord God Indra! The extraordinary light of yours illuminates the whole word. It is helping all kinds of living beings and it exhibits itself through them. Your powers are evident through the prosperity everywhere. The Fifth and Sixth Mantras describe Him as the One who makes intellect more incisive, faster. He is the One who creates various body fluids and enzymes and endocrines and takes them where they are needed. All the three mantras explain that to gain powers like those of Lord Indra, one has to concentrate on becoming one with the Supreme God. He is at the base of activity and power and movement, and the universe has these two things only because of Him.

The first Mantra says: 1. We can acquire various useful things for fulfilling our wishes by learning the Indra-Vidya, just as a person who wants milk will get it by milking a cow. The nine Mantras after this go like this:

2. Lord Indra makes various things available for us, which is a great blessing of His for us.

3. He makes the intellect more powerful so that humans can learn various good skills needed for happy living , and He also provides all the knowledge from the earth to the Supreme God.

4. This Mantra says that in order to learn the Indra – Vidya, one should approach it with a mind without any doubts and learn it.

5. The entire society must be devout and not-non believing.

6. If someone starts hating someone else, may the hate be destroyed with the Indra-Vidya, so that all may live happily.

7. The Indra-Vidnyan (Science) too is very important for man’s machine-related activities. According to the Veds, it is responsible to the operation of vehicles etc.

8. As far as rains go , Lord Indra causes the alone. He kills Vitra (clouds) and disperses his organs everywhere, and with the use of the winds, carries the rains everywhere on the earth.

9. The power of Indra resides in the innumerable materials, which can be used both creatively as well as destructively.

10. It is not enough for man to just keep praising and lauding Lord Indra, he alsomust be industrious and use sciences for the good of mankind.

With the assistance of other deities, He makes human life peaceful, so one should keep restlessness and hate and avarice out of his mind and heart.

It is the goal of human life to achieve the ultimate bliss and progress towards Moksha, so man should achieve that ability and capacity with the help of the power of Indra, which will come to him automatically, if he exercise self control and continually worships the Lord God. If we keep studying the Veds, we will surely gain the powers of gods. If we don’t we will gain neither knowledge nor salvation. As the Veds are creations of God, we must study them wholeheartedly. India went on declining as the teaching and learning of the Veds was discontinued, and we faced defeats in every sphere of life at the hands of foreign powers. So , let us all pray God to become the teachers of the world again and become active in life.
