Rigveda is a collection of various hymns which are written in the praise of God. Among these the hymns which are written in praise of Goddess Dawn have got a special and independent place. The sages of Rigvedic period used to get inspired by the vastness of nature and they used to get awestruck by it. They experienced the beautiful happenings in nature and thus worded all their experiences of this natural beauty into hymns. The sages were surprised to see the creativity in nature. They described all these and the collection of those is called as hymns.

In the Vedic hymns the gifted Brahmins felt tremendous attraction towards nature. They wrote this in wonderful words. To these Brahmins the dawn appears as a beautiful dancer dancing and taking graceful steps in the vast sky. Dawn takes us out of darkness and paves us a way to brightness. Dawn shows us a way from sleep to awakening and from laziness or lethargy to desire of working. Brahmins call the Goddess of Dawn as the most powerful of all. The purpose of this Goddess is to give strength to those who are weak, make someone famous, make somebody’s wishes and dreams come true or help somebody by inspiring them to implement his principles in his ideal life.

it is not at all a surprise that the Brahmins have called the Dawn as the daughter of the vast sky who appears in a chariot of happiness in the sky and inspires and lights the whole world. When this Goddess appears in the sky everybody is waiting for her arrival. The Vedic Rishis give the responsibility of inviting all Gods and Goddesses for the sacred Yadnya or Sacrifice to the Goddess of Dawn.

Though the dawn resides in the sky or the heaven still the dawn is highly beneficial to the mankind. The dawn is the destroyer of darkness for the human being, it destroys all bad dreams, it opens the gates of heaven to man, it reveals the treasure hidden in darkness. The dawn loves people who are generous. She inspires generosity in Gods. She appears in the sky everyday in various forms. Dawn is said to be the relative of wind, so one who is doing evil gets out of her way. The Vedic Rishis while praying to her always say that the dawn should always and only inspire good thoughts in their minds.

The Vedic sages are worshippers of the beauty around. They welcome the dawn. These Sages are also proponents, devotees of the dawn who gives birth to light. In the book "Cultural Heritage of India - Part I" Swami Sharvananda has very correctly said that, the Indian Aryans were people who likes to indulge and appreciate the divine beauty of nature. They were impressed by the high snow-covered peak of the Himalayas, the wonderful widespread green grass, huge rivers, the vast oceans surrounding the earth on all three sides. Because of the tenderness of their minds they found the underlying philosophy of the whole world in these natural wonders. They understood that this was something beyond human perception. They respected nature and were astonished to experience the various things in nature. They described this divinity in a poetic form and offered respect to nature. The collection of this poetic form called hymns is called Rigveda.
