The
most ancient sacred literature of Hinduism is called the Ved. Vedah is a word
of Sanskrit language. It means knowledge.The literature of the Veda which is
written in Sanskrit consists of sacred texts that focussed on the Vedic religion
of sacrifice and rites. They are divided into four group- Rigveda
, Yajurveda , Samaveda and Atharvaveda.
Veda is a collection of hymns,mantras, poems,verses and ceremonial procedures
formulated by several Aryan tribes dealing with wide ranging aspects of life.
Religion during the Vedic Age revolved around sacrifice.The Vedas date back
to the beginning of Indian civilization and are the earliest literary records
of the Indian civilization. It is estimated that the Ved evolved between 1500
and 2600 B.C., in ancient India, now a part of Afganisthan. They have been in
